#architecturelookingup2024 Looking up at Christ Church, Macclesfield, now closed and managed by the Churches Conservation Trust and some very dedicated volunteers. The church was built in 9 months between 1775 and 1776 and the tower is disproportionately high (103 ft tall) to make a point. The church was comissioned by a local industrialist specifically for a preacher who was passed over for the job in the main church in town as being too evangelical, and the new church was now in competition with the other church. It closed in the 1980s and I should add that the other, much older church, is still open.
