The start of my Big Project for 2023. The Great Whin Sill, a great sheet of volcanic rock formed around 300 million years ago when magma was forced up and formed a sheet for miles. The geography is fascinating to read about. This is all part of the Farne Islands Sill that encompasses Bamburgh Castle and the surrounding area. Harkness Rocks is a well known part of the sill, including Stag Rock and a lovely place to walk along England's costal path. Some are quite challenging to photograph because of the dark against the light sky, but I just edited in LR to bring out the texture. A good excuse to go for some fab walks in some lovely places. The sill has formed many of our very well known geographical features of the area. #alysonsbigproject
